چکیده

Abstrucr-This paper presents architecture and mechanisms to support multiple QoS under the DiffServ paradigm. On the data plane, we present a node architecture based on the virtual time reference system (VTRS), which is a unifying scheduling framework for scalable support of the guaranteed service. The key building block of our node architecture is the core-stateless virtual clock (CSVC) scheduling algorithm, which, in terms of providing delay guarantee, has the same expressive power as a stateful weighted fair queueing (WFQ) scheduler. Based on the CSVC scheduler, we design a node architecture that is capable of supporting integrated transport of the guaranteed service (GS), the premium service (PS), the assured service (AS), and the traditional besteffort (BE) service. On the control plane, we present a BB architecture to provideflexible resource allocation and QoS provisioning. Simulation results demonstrate that our architecture and mechanisms can provide scalable andflexible transport of integrated traffic of the GS, the PS, the AS, and the BE services.

Feedback Output Queuing: A Novel Architecture for Efficient Switching Systems

We consider the problem of providing QoS guarantees in a high-speed packet switch. As basic requirements, the switch should be scalable to high speeds per port, a large number of ports and a large number of traffic flows with independent QoS guarantees. Existing scalable solutions are based on Virtual Output Queueing, which is computationally complex when required to provide QoS guarantees for ...

Scalable architecture for providing per-flow bandwidth guarantees

Despite numerous efforts, the problem of providing per-flow Quality of Service in a scalable manner still remains an active area of research. This paper introduces a scalable architecture for support of per-flow bandwidth guarantees, called the Bandwidth Distribution Scheme (BDS). The BDS maintains aggregate flow information in the network core and distributes this information among boundary no...

Comparative Evaluation of Two Scalable QoS Architectures

This paper performs a comparative evaluation of two QoS architectures, RSVP Reservation Aggregation and Scalable ReservationBased QoS, aimed at providing QoS levels similar to the ones provided by the well-known RSVP/IntServ architecture, but scalable enough for use in high traffic core networks. The comparative analysis, based on each model’s characteristics and on simulation results, shows th...

A network architecture for providing per-flow delay guarantees with scalable core

Many real-time applications demand delay guarantees from the network. A network architecture designed to support these applications should be robust and scalable. The IntServ architecture provides per-flow QoS at the cost of robustness and scalability. The DiffServ architecture is robust and scalable but can provide QoS at a class level and not at a flow level. In this paper, our aim is to desi...

A Transsignaling Strategy for QoS Support in Heterogeneous Networks

The increasing usage of multiple signalling mechanisms, with associated QoS extensions, creates several problems to commercial data networks. New and scalable approaches are required for the network operator to support this diversity. This paper discusses a highly flexible, scalable architecture for processing QoS Admission Control in public networks. The architecture relies on the cooperation ...
